Donk Boys are Martin and Thomas – two geeky techno addicts living in Malmö, Sweden. Both started producing electronic music in the mid 90ies, and got together to make trax together in their shared flat in 2006.
Here’s what the boys themselves say:
“Our music is inspired by the memories of past raves and warehouse parties, Joey Beltram’s “Game Form”, hard shuffled beats, the Djax-Up-Beats label, Neil Landstrumm (wonky techno yeah!), Cari Lekebusch and Hybrid, TR-909, Jeff Mills, Börft Records… well, you get the idea. There’s loads more but we could go on forever, really.”
“We try to make fun music for people who like to get down. It’s just party music; the kind of stuff we like listening to and play as DJs. Sometimes it’s more old skool and sometimes we like to try something new. Whatever we feel like is what we do. We don’t even know if we are considered to be ‘minimal’, ‘techno’ or ‘house’, you know?”
But why the name Donk Boys?
“Well, ‘donk’ is as far from the recent UK donk genre (popular in some urban UK cities) as you can go. It is simply another word for the bass drum: Donk donk donk donk! Get it? Haha.”
Since their celebrated debut release in 2007 (played by DJs from Richie Hawtin to Daniel Bell) on french wonky house label Frankie Records, the boys are now part of the much respected Dirtybird label in San Fransisco.
They have also put out EPs for Trapez, Floppy Funk, Siteholder, Schatten, FVF Records and Plak + remixed artists like Frankie, Todd Sines, Slagsmålsklubben, Titonton Duvante, Brian Ffar, Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin (Beat that bird!), Marc Ashken, to name a few.
So far the boys have toured Europe with their crazy energetic live performances and entertained people in Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland as well as Swedish cities Malmö, Norrköping and Stockholm.

Swiss born David Keno began his musical life learning classical instruments such as guitar and drums when he was 12. After playing in various rock bands he discovered his love of electronic music. He bought a drum machine and an old Korg synthesizer and started to experiment. Over the next few years he developed his skills and eventually the guys from the Pocketgame label loved his melodic productions so much that they signed him for his first release: Vernis – Bubble Bath EP which came with a fantastic Trentemoeller remix.
From there his career took off. He has released on labels such as I220, Zenit, Meerestief, Karateklub, ELP and provided remixes for Samuel L. Session, G-Man, da Fresh, Robert Drewek, Hugg&Pepp, DK8 and even 80ies heroes Trans-X who wanted a remix for their “living on video” that came out on ZYX Music.
The next step in his career was to launch his own label and in January 2007 Keno Records 01 was released with huge success. “Liquid” went on to be found in the playlists of many DJs.
In David Keno’s DJ sets or also as a Livect his musical range goes from minimal techno to house. Very floor-oriented but often with a certain melodic touch. Maybe these are his roots from the 80ies shining through.

While the infectious house groove of Snatch001 lead us to believe that European summer was around the corner, Snatch002, from techno nerds Donk Boys, seduces us back into the darkness.
Wonky bass sleazed house with an attitude never sounded so delicious.
Since their celebrated debut release in 2007 on Frankie Records (played by DJs from Richie Hawtin to Daniel Bell) to their love affair with Claude Vonstroke’s ‘Dirtybird’ label the Swedish boys, named after the slang for ‘bass drum’ or ‘donk’, continue to tour Europe with their electrifying live performances.
It was in the shadowy rave pit of one of these that this EP was ‘Snatched’ as the second release on the label by Riva. Inspiring memories of past raves and warehouse parties and nodding to techno legends like Joey Beltram, Neil Landstrumm, Cari Lekebusch, Hybrid, TR-909 and Jeff Mills, this EP will wash over your sleep deprived synapses and keep you firmly on the floor in the early hours.

The hot name on the Berlin underground right now is David Keno and the track that you are addicted to without yet knowing is “Upside Down”.
You are the first people to be getting this release as its been kept under wraps since label boss Riva Star first started playing it at the end of 2009.
After recently being featured on Riva’s Radio 1 Essential Mix and bagged super early for DJ Hell’s Gigolo compilation, the buzz around it has now reached breaking point with enquiries coming daily on where people can get their hands on it.
It could be one of the most anticipated EPs of the year so far so it’s a very fitting release to start the label with. Hold onto your hubcaps.
